Escape crowded shopping malls and online click frenzies in favour of a more local experience – one where you get to meet the person who crafted your gifts. At these local Christmas markets around Brisbane, you will find everything from ceramics to art and vintage wares. Here's where to make Christmas shopping a feel-good experience – and with many of these markets kicking off in November, you can get your gifts sorted early. 

Christmas Design Market | GOMA

The annual Christmas Design Market at the front of GOMA is a chance for the gallery’s store to spread its wings outside and invite local makers into the mix. This year you’ll be able to shop for ceramics, jewellery, art, cushions, fashion and art tea towels.

Christmas Design Market | Vieille Branche

One of Brisbane’s most creative spaces, Vieille Branche plays host to popular seasonal design markets (pictured). The Christmas edition of these markets is always the biggest, with everything from plants to antiques, jewellery and fashion in the mix.

Brisbane Fair Trade Christmas Market | QSAC

You know that warm and fuzzy feeling you get from giving a gift? It’s even warmer and fuzzier when you know the gift has been made ethically. The annual Fair Trade Christmas Market takes place out at QSAC stadium, where products have been sourced from as far as Palestine, Nepal and Cambodia.

Brisbane Etsy Made Local Market | Brisbane Showgrounds

Etsy has been a game changer for small artisans who make interesting things. And while it’s fun to shop online, there’s nothing like meeting the maker and being able to see their objects in person before buying. Head along to the Christmas Etsy Made Local Market to meet Brisbane’s tribe of Etsy makers and pick up a new skill at a craft workshop.

24–25 November

Brisbane Christmas Markets | King George Square 

These markets prove it is possible to shop locally in the CBD. Organised by BrisStyle, the annual Brisbane Christmas Markets sells products handmade in Brisbane. Live music sets the tone for the convivial market, which also hosts free craft workshops.

9 December

Christmas Pop-Up Collective | Avid Reader 

Local shops Nook, Junky Comics, The Happy Cabin and Browns General Store are popping up together at Avid Reader's cafe, Avid Kitchen + Garden. Shop for homewares, jewellery, clothing and quirky gifts, and then stock up on summer reads while you're there.

Museum Twilight Markets | The Workshops Rail Museum 

At this market you will shop as the sun sets, and then be able to take a torchlight museum tour. The Workshops Rail Museum is presenting this twilight market together with BrisStyle – a collective of local designers and craftspeople. These markets also have live entertainment and food trucks, as well as a star weaving craft workshop for One Million Stars To End Violence Project's installation for the Commonwealth Games.

Twilight Christmas Market | Carseldine Markets 

Forget late-night shopping at malls. At the Carseldine Markets' Twilight Christmas Market, you can shop under the stars instead. Visit to unearth unique gift ideas, meet local artisans, stock up on produce and have a crack at making your own decorations.

20 December

Christmas on Cribb | Cribb Street, Milton

Last-minute shoppers, this market is for you. This special event by Milton Markets will see you shopping at 180 stalls as live entertainment plays in the background. Pick up handmade gifts as well as fresh produce to see you through the season. Christmas on Cribb will also have pop-up bars to get you feeling extra jolly.
