The Lonesome West

Judith Wright Centre

8th November - 18th November

Troop Productions’ latest masterpiece The Lonesome West is set to go off with a bang as it hits the stage at Judith Wright Centre this November. This explosive black comedy, written by the internationally-acclaimed Martin McDonagh, is “brutal and savagely funny”, according to the Sunday Times.

Set on the West coast of Ireland, The Lonesome West is the satirical tale of two brothers attempting reconciliation against a dark backdrop of patricide, religious hypocrisy and vicious bloody carnage.

Producer Tara Henry believes the production will “trigger a new sense of celebration of the rich historical connection between Irish and Australian communities in Queensland”.

Multi-Matilda nominated Troop Productions are Queensland’s only film and theatre production company. The group of visionaries and artistic collaborators has a strong focus on building sustainability within the arts. Troop is giving away 600 free tickets to high school Arts students to make theatre more accessible, and to educate and inspire young people in the hope that they remain involved in the industry.

Directed by Keiran Brice, The Lonesome West stars local actors Christopher Story and Cameron Hurry who play the ill-fated Connor brothers, UK performer Eva McGillivray as the young and beautiful Girleen, and Irish actor, Derek Draper as the ethically bereft Father Welsh. The show will run from 8–18 November at Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts as wells as two additional matinees for high school students. Tickets on sale now www. judithwrightcentre.com.
