Water

GOMA

7th December - 26th April

This summer in Brisbane is all about finding somewhere cool to spend the day, surrounded by water.

If that sounds like paradise, QAGOMA’s latest summer blockbuster has incredible experiences to make your summer the best yet.

‘Water’, features an enticing combination of large-scale immersive experiences and tiny quiet artwork treasures that will refresh visitors of all ages.

‘Water’ will flow though GOMA’s entire ground floor, exploring the precious resource from the perspective of artists from around the globe.

Visitors will be invited to walk across a vast rocky riverbed, and over a flowing stream – a place to explore, and leave their impression on an evolving artwork from Danish-Icelandic conceptual artist Olafur Eliasson.

The iconic and much-loved Heritage returns with 45 animals, both predator and prey, drinking together at the lake created by Cai Guo-Qiang, inspired by Stradbroke Island.

Trapped within icy confines, Snowman, a frozen sculpture by Swiss duo Peter Fischli and David Weiss strikes an unexpected sight, comically out of place in Brisbane’s summer heat.

A test of wits and determination is next with William Forsythe’s cloud of suspended gymnastic rings. This interactive experience asks visitors to consider the movement of their bodies as they lift themselves up to traverse the Gallery.

Alongside these crowd-pleasers sit an extraordinary array of finely crafted artworks, breathtaking underwater imagery, and expressions of culture and story, all connected by water.
