After rumours flew around Brisbane, own very own season of Broadway phenomenon The Book of Mormon has been confirmed.
Finally, after Sydney and Melbourne's blockbuster runs, The Book of Mormon's Brisbane season will open at QPAC's Lyric Theatre on 16 March, 2019.
Since it debuted on Broadway in 2011, the musical from South Park's creators continues to sell out every week in New York. The same has happened in Sydney, where more than 45,000 tickets sold on the first day of sales. And if you have travelled to London recently, you will have battled to secure tickets there too, with the show still selling out every performance despite having opened on West End back in 2013.
In total, the production has won nine Tony Awards, four Olivier Awards, a Grammy and the 2017 Helpmann Award for Best Musical – an accolade Dame Julie Andrews' My Fair Lady was widely expected to take out.
The musical follows two young Mormon missionaries who travel to Uganda. In the face of life's most desperate struggles including famine and poverty, the spritely teens begin to question their beliefs and ignorance, among other things. Despite the depth of the premise, the show is layered with satire and comedy that leaves audiences in stitches.
